New Materialite – Jane Gillespie

New materialite NEW

A little bit about me…

I was born and raised in Aberfeldy, a small town in Highland Perthshire. I am a fully-fledged country bumpkin and proud, as I explained to Anna the other week – I cannot safely cross roads!  My house sits about 2 miles up a rough dirt track and I am very lucky to have a view like the one below.

After school I moved to Dundee for four years to study International The View From My HouseEconomics and Management at Abertay University.  I completely my degree in May with no real direction or knowledge of where I wanted to be in regards to a job – all I knew for sure was that I wanted to be in living in Glasgow.

I was lucky enough to find Material within a month of moving down to the big smoke and I have been working here for two very exciting months. Thank goodness I answered Karen’s first interview question exactly as she would have, or who knows where I would be now!

My First Material BirthdayI’m not entirely sure my family and friends believe I have a real job as I seem to have found a company that are equally as passionate about all the things I love: Christmas, pets, a good social gathering and cups of tea. But as they say hard work pays off and why not enjoy it along the way?  Which is very much the kind of company Material is.

I’ve found that with over 25 people in the office and everyone busy on many different projects, it can be quite hard to get to know someone properly.  So I wanted to use this post as a ‘get to know me’ and I thought I would enlist a little help from the Material team.

I asked everyone to suggest the number one question they would ask someone they had recently met that would help them get to know that person better and gauge their personality.  So below are my answers to all of your, at times wacky, questions – enjoy!

What are your top three crisps and breakfast cereals?

Crisps: Salt & vinegar anything, Doritos Chilli Heat Wave and McCoys Thai Sweet Chicken

Cereals: Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, Alpen and Oats So Simple

What’s your favourite movie sequel?

Both the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings films only got better as the sequels continued. So probably one of them. Although I did love 21 & 22 Jump Street.

What’s your favourite food?

I love seafood, olives and cheese!  Not being a very fussy eater the only things I would definitely say no to are; lamb, goats cheese and jelly.

Do you have any pets? If so, what is the pets name?

I have the cutest black Labrador called Bailey, but unfortunately she lives back in Aberfeldy with my parents so I don’t get to see her that often.  So to also answer another question I was given – always dogs over cats!

Would you rather have Monster Munch for feet or Wotsits for fingers?

Has to be Monster Munch for feet!! I could not stand the smell of Wotsits being that close to my face all day – ew.

Are you a football fan?

Not really, been brought up as more of a rugby lover!

What is your favourite holiday destination?

I love skiing so if I could be whisked away anywhere right now, and there was snow, I would head straight for the Alps.

What is your favourite music genre?

I’m not sure I have one, I listen to the radio a lot so I hear all of the chart stuff daily but I’m surrounded by people with very differing music tastes.  For instance I have grown up being forced to listen to opera music by my parents, however that’s not to say you’ll find me in the Theatre Royal anytime soon!

What are your favourite colours and what are your views on unicorns?

Favourite colour to wear is probably black or white, very monochrome.  But my favourite colour for anything other than clothes is pastel blue.

I like the idea of unicorns being real, but then I sort of believe in magic..  I used to have a white Highland Pony called Katie and she was like my very own unicorn, minus the alicorn (had to google that word).

What is your favourite TV Show?

I have a strong addiction to both Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead – as do a fair few others in the office!  I am also eagerly awaiting the return of Orange is the New Black (even though it will probably be another year..)

Red or white wine?

I used to love a white wine but I think I’m more of a rose drinker now.

If your friends were asked to describe you in one word what would it be?

Organised or possibly snobby, but I much prefer organised!
